Karen Gingrich
Karen Gingrich (B.Sc. Dip AT, OAT) is a mental health professional who provides psychological services under the supervision of a registered psychologist.
Karen currently works in private practice in the community of London, Ontario as an Art and Play Therapist. Following graduation from the Art Therapy program at the University of Western Ontario in 1995, professional experience has included:
- working with at-risk street youth
- developing and managing an art and play therapy private practice
- providing art and play therapy to First Nations children
- facilitating group programs for both adults and children
- coordinating an initiative with refugee and immigrant families within the schools and community of the city of London
- providing therapeutic intervention for incarcerated adolescents
Karen is a registered member of the OATA (Ontario Art Therapy Association), has completed her training with the CACPT (Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy), and holds an additional membership with the OACCPP (Ontario Association of Consultants, Psychometrists, and Psychotherapists). She has served on several committees of the OATA Board, and was a past executive board member for 8 years as Treasurer, Membership Chair, President, and Past President. Karen has been involved with the Ontario Coalition of Mental Health Professionals since its inception in 2002, and is a member of the Steering Committee for the Coalition.
Further professional development has included training in:
(1) TheraPlay (intervention for Attachment Disorders)
(2) Trauma and Loss School Specialist, from the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children, Michigan
Karen maintains interest and current knowledge in the fields of Trauma, Grief and Loss; Sexualized Behaviour and Treatment; ADHD and Behavioural Issues; Attachment and Relationships; and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. A focus over many years has always been with marginalized populations, working with systemic issues, and providing a creative and supportive environment for children and adolescents.
