Bruce worked in school board settings with children experiencing learning and behavioural difficulties, and now brings his expertise to private practice. When assessing a child or adolescent, he often starts by visiting at the home to discuss the referral problem and to meet the student in the setting where he/she is most comfortable. Assessment later takes place in an office, and includes looking at learning capacity and achievement, attention, memory and social emotional functioning. A diagnosis is made when appropriate. A comprehensive report is prepared and presented to the parents and child (if age appropriate). The results are reviewed so the child/adolescent and parents understand how they learn best and how to provide support and encouragement. |
